OMGIC! (Oh my gosh it's cold)

Posted 12-16-2008 at 02:27 PM by slamont61

Our first winter storm has come and gone - yet it isn't even winter yet. On Sunday we had Blizzard Conditions all day long as we picked up about 12 inches of snow. The tempertures plummeted from a low high of minus 8 degrees through to -27 this morning. You don't want to know the wind chill factor. Factor it in and we feel like almost -50 degrees. Yikes is THAT ever cold.

Even my dog, a Miniature American Eskimo seemed perplexed when she stepped outside. I've had to shovel a path out into the yard for her to head out to potty. Stepping in the deep snow one can see that even a dog is affected by the bitter cold. A few steps in the deep snow and you see her step gingerly and then want to sit. Not good but is new. I didn't see her react like that at all last winter and we regularly have extreem cold. She still wants her walk and so I deal with it.

Layers upon layers of clothing for me and her, she wears a sweater. She tries not to have to wear it but submits to it. Oh she looks so cute wearing it but we have such extreem bitter cold that I really think she does need it. This year we've bought boots for her. I got the idea watching the Iditarod Dog Sled Race on the Discovery Channel. All the dogs were wearing them thoughout the entire race. They seemed to not mind them and so I'm trying to get my Dog to embrace them during the real cold snaps (one of which we are in currently). Get this; Muttlucks, and why not?

It is snowing again but we're up to -6 degrees almost 20 degrees higher than this morning. The thermometer is on the rise and will continue until we top off at 2 degrees tonight followed by a gradual raise to a balmy high of 10 degrees tomorrow. Ah but this is Minnesota and we are all geared to deal with the peaks and valleys of winter. Hey, so long as it doesn't go above freezing, we need the Ice to thinken about two more inches so we can drive our cars on it. My dog loves the ice, be it a lake or a river. We travel on both. As of this weekend it's open season for ice walks. Yea! or should I say woof!

For now, me and my shovel are becoming re-aquainted. No I'm not a snow blower owner nor a plower. I use the good old fassion shovel to move the mountains of snow on my property. The exercise does me well. I just hate it though when a shovel full is blown back into my face. What can you do?

Only a week before the days begin the process of elongating. Some call it winter. I don't so much mind the winter any more. I'm from Minnesota now. Winter is a much more enjoyable time of year once again. Something I didn't much get in Wisconsin. There the mild winters meant little time on the ice. No real skiing to speak of like back in Pennsylvania at Seven Springs Resort. Those days were great, snow = fun the math didn't add up in Wisconsin. These days though we get the real deal once again. I enjoy the cold, well some of the cold. Remove the wind and I'll not complain not one little bit.

That was not the case of recent leaving me to utter that sequence OMGIC!
