Moving to Nashville
Posted 12-15-2008 at 07:24 AM by rescueyou7
I was just wondering if anyone could help me out with a few questions I have. I am looking to relocate to Nashville or surrounding areas from Cleveland, Ohio. I am a firefighter/paramedic and having difficulty finding job openings and pay rates. Does anyone have any information on fire departments that are hiring. I would like to try and get on a busy department cause sitting in the station all day is no fun. Also, do firefighters live comfortably on their salary in the area? Any information you could help me out with would be greatly appreciated, thankyou.

I would suggest Mt. Juliet, TN
We live in the Nashville area. While I am not sure about firefighter pay, specifically, I may be able to help you out with other info. For example, if you are looking for good schools and a safe place to live that is reasonably priced - check out Wilson County. As far as Nashville goes, the south & west sides (and downtown) are VERY expensive because that's where the stars live. Al Gore's mansion is here, Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman and lots of country music stars. Antioch is AWFUL (crime is everywhere and schools are dangerous). The north side isn't popular just because of the volume of trucks and traffic (on 65 southbound) you have to fight if you need to drive to work in the city. Metro Nashville Schools are in the first phase of being taken over by the government for poor performance. We live in Old Hickory, TN - which is just on the eastern edge of Davidson County. We both commute downtown (about 30 minutes). If we choose to stay here much longer, we will most likely follow our friends in moving to Mt. Juliet. I think, on fighter's pay, this would be a good place to consider. I have lived in a city before, but the traffic here is NO JOKE...so be sure you take that into consideration if you need to drive into the city for work.
Hope that helps!Posted 12-15-2008 at 07:51 AM by namaste_melissa -
Thankyou for all the info, traffic is no concern coming from cleveland where you can sit on the highway for an hour easily. I'll look into Mt. Juliet
