Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

It's About Time Houston Had Some Good News

I never thought I'd see the day where what I'm about to tell you would happen. Recently in Case's Column, I wrote about the travails of Houston's radio airwaves. What I'm about to unveil is some good news, at least for those wishing to see a void filled.

Here's that news for you: We are seeing a format change on 92.1 FM in Houston (the city of license is Seabrook). KROI had been a black gospel station, and was previously KRTS, the great classical station. Now, they are about to become all-news. It begins in mid-November and will be Houston's ABC radio affiliate and will be doing local, regional, and national news seven days a week. They will be called "News 92 FM".

And there was much rejoicing in Southeast Texas and for all news junkies everywhere! YAAAAAAAAYYYYYY!

My last Houston road trip was just lacking compared to other trips I've made. No KPRC. No KTRH (well, not the way it was). But hey, I saw some great sights, cityscapes, beachfronts, and ate some wonderful food, but that's not important now. Local news is back on Houston airwaves. So this news is welcome for news junkies, business people, truck drivers, and anyone in the world who wants to stay informed. I know what you're saying: "Well, Case, we have other available sources for news....." Indeed. But here's my case, if you will: You can't get the Internet up when you are driving. My gosh, if Dallas can have two strong stations for local news, why can't Houston?

That's reason enough to get a local, all-news station back on the air in America's fourth-largest city. You need more than just television, the Internet, and the morning paper to cover every base. Your other options will now be these:

KTRH (740 FOX) - local updates on the hour and half-hour only during the day weekdays.
KIKK (650 CBS) - a dadgummed sunrise-to-sunset outfit with no local news.
KSEV (700 SRN) - brief local updates on weekdays only.
KUHF (88.7 NPR) - a station that's at least tried to fill KTRH's void, but only offers brief local updates Monday through Friday only.

Now, if we could just get KPRC to go back to its old self again.......

Oh, here's that link for you.
