Agonizing Over a Camera
It's now been five days and I still haven't clicked that Buy button. It has remained in the Cart sitting there and staring at me. I've done my research, read review after review, posted in the Photography forum, went back and forth between one model and the one I wanted originally, talked with customer service over extended warranties, yadiyadiya...and still, here I am undecided over a $500 purchase. I don't know why I am so undecided. It took me 5 minutes to order a laptop, took me perhaps a day to buy a $6000 sewing/embroidery machine, but am so undecided with this one. Maybe at the back of my mind, I couldn't justify buying another when I already have one? But this one is so much of an upgrade over the one I have! Maybe it's because I really have no need for one, and it's one of those because I JUST want one? Or is it because I know I could take so many more creative photos that I just couldn't with a 3 MP 3x zoom one? My husband says I have way too many hobbies...this one I know is one I have always wanted to do since way back in college, and never could afford. Is it guilt from being told I have too many expensive toys?! I tried to forget it, or postpone it, but every morning I wake up, I find myself obsessed with it!
Wish he would come home now...so I can show him the pricing. Ooooooh, I've gotta get the bag and kit, filters, tripod, and so many other goodies!
Tomorrow, I will make the call. My bare walls are soon to be a gallery...the world around me through the lens!

To the Photographers of CD
Well, the agony is over! I did succumb to the very primal need to get an itch scratched. I am approaching obsession with this new toy! I wake up in the morning thinking about what will I take a picture of next! The subjects, at least those that make photography history, are not plentiful unfortunately.
Sometimes, I'm desperate enough to take pictures of my feet, newly pedicured at that! What to do for macros? There is that nasty hangnail...should I zoom in on it?
And then there's the manual to read, and read, and read...sigh...and software to study and read and read...sigh! A week after owning the camera, I realized that there were two dials I needed to learn about which were there all the time (obviously) which, until I discovered that they were to adjust my aperture and shutter speed settings, frustrated me to no end. As the light bulb finally went on, the stakes get raised everyday. Everyday as well, I have to come to terms with the limits of my camera, the limits of my time, and the limits of any photo editing software. The only thing I know that doesn't have a limit is my imagination and the passion to create and immortalize that creation. I know that every new endeavor I get into starts with a steep learning curve, as I am very ambitious and at the same time extremely critical of what I produce. I have to pull myself back everytime and tell myself that it takes time to be an expert. And I use the word expert loosely.
The good thing though is that one never lacks for people who are willing to jump in and help and share their knowledge and experience and successes. There are people who genuinely care and are delighted that one more soul has decided to embrace their own passions and has an appreciation for the art form they have chosen. There are those people who have refused to rest on their own laurels, no matter how much other people have validated their work and put them on a pedestal. Such humility from these artists is refreshing on a daily basis.

A friend of mine is contemplating making a career change into the field fo photography. What sort of photography are you excited about? There are so many amazing sites for amazing pictures, but do you get people in action, scenery around you? How do you 'know' you are in the presence of a photo op you can not afford to miss?
