Sharing is the hardest part.

It has been said before, sharing your work is difficult. Whether it be some form of art like painting, sculpting or performing--when you share it, AKA publish the piece--it is really you on display.
Not everyone's art is Ward and June Cleaver. In fact, most artists probably go to their "dark" side as often, if not more than they do the quiet and polite side of their creations.
We fear what others will think once we share our art. Will they think I am deranged? Will they see me as a twisted and broken person? Will they still want me to sit down with them for dinner?
Of course all your friends will tell you they understand. That it is just your "art" and not a direct reflection of you as a person. That is what they will all say...to your face.

This free writing, done in early 1997 is an example of one such trip to the "dark" side....

She desired to be loved. All the years of vying for her parents love left her hallow and frightened. Afraid of being unacceptable, afraid of rejection. MAy be there is something to the words of Freud. This electra complex played out all to well in her life.
Not that she saw herself as the castrated male who got caught chasing mom (if so, Dad himself had to be gay and the world is truly masculine). She had been very careful in exploring her sexuality. The bedroom apartment provided her and brother the perfect laboratory.
Though, like her relationship withher parents, brother lacked passion and intimacy. Unlike her interaction with her parents, the shared bedroom did teach both siblings accecptance could be possessed.
Following Sigmund's theory, she sought out men who possessed the acceptance her parents feared.

He wasn't the embodiment of lust. Nor had he the traits of wanton sex. But he has a passion unequaled by other men she had been with in bed. He is also the only man she continues to desire over a passing of time. Others had been temporary indulgences, very temporary. But he had the forethought to provide her with the pleasure one could only experience through acceptance and intimacy.

I have added paragraphs for ease of reading. This free write continues for for another page and a half. There is no date on the page, but the spiral notebook has COMPLETED APRIL 13. 1997 written on the aqua cover.
That was almost 2 months before I left Madison for Naropa in Boulder, Colorado.

I really do need to get the writing into sleeves and a three-ring binder
