Texans: What is Your Opinion of Gov. Perry?

Posted 08-19-2011 at 01:42 PM by CptnRn

Perry's own words expose his ignorance, his negative attitude towards education and his lack of respect for anyone who disagrees with him or holds beliefs different from his own. He is not fit to be the leader of a country that is already as divided as we are.

Quote:
“Juarez is reported to be the most dangerous city in America.”

"When we came into the union in 1845, one of the issues was that we would be able to leave if we decided to do that.”

"Our party cannot be all things to all people. It can't be. Our loudest opponents on the left are never going to like us so let's stop trying to curry favor with them. "

"When you are a leader and you make hard decisions, you **** some people off."

"Now I know most of you present here have already enrolled your children in some of our state's finest private schools. But I want to make private schools more accessible to Republican Christian families that cannot afford to pay high tuition and for those who cannot home school their children. "

"Well, there is a lot of fat to cut from our public schools, especially those in our biggest urban areas like Houston and Dallas. I am concerned that some the highly diverse Magnet public schools in this city are becoming hotbeds for liberalism. Do we really need free school bus service, Black History Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, Asian-Pacific Heritage Month, ESL, special needs and enrichment programs like music, art or math Olympiad? I think we should get back to the basics of the three Rs, reading writing and arithmetic. I mean when is the last time a 6th grade science fair project yielded a cure for a disease?"

"I really don't see why high schools should have to teach college level courses like calculus, economics, physics, chemistry or biology. Not all children go to college anyway. Texas has plenty of on the job training programs that teach skills and trades. Oil field workers need to know how to operate machines that extract oil. They don't need calculus to do their job."

"I have no problem if curriculum specialists and teachers decide to replace language arts and literature with bible study. The Christian learning center's students will have to do quite a bit of praying once they graduate and enter the global market place."

"...under the authority vested in me by the Constitution and Statutes of the State of Texas, do hereby proclaim the three-day period from Friday, April 22, 2011, to Sunday, April 24, 2011, as Days of Prayer for Rain in the State of Texas. I urge Texans of all faiths and traditions to offer prayers on that day for the healing of our land, the rebuilding of our communities and the restoration of our normal and robust way of life. "

"From time to time there are going to be things that occur that are acts of God that cannot be prevented."

The audience laughed and Smith pointed out the state's abysmal teen pregnancy rate. "It works," insisted Perry. "Maybe it's the way it's being taught, or the way it's being applied out there, but the fact of the matter is it is the best form of -- uh -- to teach our children." Smith asked for a statistic to suggest it works, and Perry replied that "I'm just going to tell you from my own personal life, abstinence works."

“That marriage is the union between a man and a woman is a truth known to each one of us already, and any attempt to allow same-sex marriages is a detriment to the family unit and hurts our state and nation.”

In regard to Social Security: In his fiery anti-Washington book, ‘Fed Up!’, published last fall when he had no plans to run for president, Mr. Perry called the program, which turned 76 on Monday, “a crumbling monument to the failure of the New Deal.” He suggested the program’s creation violated the Constitution. The program was put in place, ‘at the expense of respect for the Constitution and limited government,’ he wrote, comparing the program to a ‘bad disease’ that has continued to spread.

"Here your mom was asking about evolution, and you know it's a theory that's out there, and it's got some gaps in it," Perry said. "In Texas, we teach both creationism and evolution in our public schools — because I figure you're smart enough to figure out which one is right."

Politifact evaluated that statement and determined that it is FALSE, Texas does not teach both creationism and evolution in our public schools. http://www.politifact.com/texas/stat...ols-teach-evo/
His grades clearly show that he is poorly educated, in fact was barely able to graduate with an agricultural degree. http://www.scribd.com/doc/61684192/R...A-M-Transcript
