Going to church, reading the bible, listening to Christian music will not advance your spiritual life. These activities may give you more understanding but until you are ready to lay down your life and take up your cross this leads nowhere.

What I am talking about is the sacrifice of self to advance the cause of Jesus Christ in the world. There is a destiny that God had for each of us that only we can personally discover. We can discover it only by detaching from the world and making ourselves available for the Holy Spirit. By detaching from the world--now you have time--the commodity that most Christians are not willing to give.

Jesus said, "Self-help is not help at all. Self-sacrifice is the way, to finding yourself, your true self. (Matthew 16:25)

"God has planted eternity in the human heart." (Ecclesiastes 3:11)

"Anyone who lets himself be distracted from the work I plan for him is not fit for the Kingdom of God." (Luke 9:62)

"The most important thing is that I complete my mission, the work that the Lord Jesus gave me." (Acts 20:24)

"We have been sent to speak for Christ." (2 Corinthians 5:20)

"We are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus, to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." (Ephesians 2:10)

2. Inheritance in Christ

Read the Epistle of 2 Timothy
Paul wrote the second letter to his young missionary associate Timothy in A.D.66 -- about two years after he wrote 1 Timothy. Imprisioned for the second time in Rome, Paul expected to be executed at any time. There is a pathetic strain of loneliness running through the episitle, and it is not surprising the he was anxious to see Timothy, his son in the gospel, and to exhort him in his ministry.

Main Themes:

a. Reminds Timothy of his godly ancestry, and exhorts him to earnestness and courage.
b. A Christian minister requires determination, prayer, and commitment to holiness and righteousness in one's daily walk.
c. He counsels Timothy to "flee... youthful lusts" and to "follow righteousness, faith, charity, and peace.
d. Shun religious arguments and strange doctrines which eat into spiritual life and overthrow faith.
e. It should be the ambition of all to be "vessels" for the Masters use.
f. An appeal to Timothy to be steadfast in view of his spiritual opportunities and training in the scriptures.
g. Avoid foolish questions and strife -- patient treatment of opposers, with the hope that they will repent.
h. As the time for Jesus' return, draws near, evil will grow stronger, even within the fellowship of the church.

Affirmations: (Repeat and Meditate on These as You Go throughout the Day)

God did not give me the spirit of fear but a spirit of power, of love and of self-dicipline. (2 Timothy 1:7)

For He saved me from all that is evil and called me to a life of holiness - not because of any of my achievements but for His own purpose. Before time began He planned to give me in Jesus Christ the grace to achieve this purpose. (2 Timothy 1:9)

The Lord grants me understanding in everything. (2 Timothy 2:7)

I convince, rebuke, and exhort others in the Word through teaching and patience. (2 Timothy 4:2)

I fight the good fight of faith, finish the race, and keep the faith. (2 Timothy 4:7)

3. Dunamis Life

GRABBING HOLD OF THE REALITY

Hebrews 4:12 -- For the word of God is living and powerful............

For one who has faith in the word of God, there is nothing impossible. There are no impossibilities when there is faith....and there are no exceptions.....

Observation

My faith in God's word is not just an abiding faith; it is active -- it is aggressive by nature.
It has focus and purpose.
Faith grabs hold of the reality of the Kingdom and forcefully and violently brings it into a collision with this natural one.
An inferior kingdom cannot stand.

Matthew 11:12 -- And from the days of John the Baptist until now the Kingdom of Heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

Romans 10:17 -- So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Into Action

What vision has God put into your heart?

How are you violently applying your faith?
