RV life...

Welcome to RV life...

Hello...I own and live in a RV...and even though there are lot's of RV threads on here...discussions usually die down quick on them...so I figured it's about high time I start a RV blog...where I share, and allow others to share, thoughts, suggestions, ideas, stories, whatever about RV life...

RV's are basically like people...

they come in all shapes colors and sizes, some are rich, some are poor...and people use them for a variety of purposes, some use them strictly for recreational use, others use them strictly for economical purposes...to live in and save money...

As a former over the road commercial driver...the stereotypical RV'r was always of the wealthy rich retired couple cruising down I-95 or I-75 or any other major highway, headed off into the sunset, the husband driving while the wife either had her feet up on the dash, or pre-occupied doing something else...

Everynow and then you would see the older 'junk' RV's...with the hippie types in them...headed to who know's where...

Regardless...there is a large RV culture out there...and there really is no stereotypical owner...

Personally I think they're great, and don't understand why more don't own them...

A home you can take anywhere you go, and out right own...vs 10-30 year morgage...screw that...

An RV is just like owning a little apartment on wheels...

You can take it anywhere you go, follow job opportunities with them, take weekend get aways, park right up next to the beach or forest, or drive deep into the desert...I love them...and that's why I'm starting this blog...

For those who share my same passion and like to hear someone voice those passions for you...and with that...let's begin...

All you have to do is sit back and read...or post if ya want, but most just prefer to read...later...

    Cleaned roof...

Today I went up on the roof and cleaned it...now it's all shiney again...no leaks...but I do want to get some calk, to seal it anyways...auto stores don't seem to sell it...so I'll have to head out to RV sales lot/store...

Water can really destroy an RV...warp the walls, the floor...
Also built up leaves and other foilage can create damp wet spots which can create rot...so keeping the roof dry and clear of debri, is very important.

I may head out here soon and get some calk...

Geocel Corp - Advanced RV EPDM Roof Sealant - Roof Maintenance & Repair - Camping World

to seal the bead line (think that's what it's called) expecially as much as it's been raining lately....

And if you try to sell it, that's one of the main things people will want to know...'Any leaks?'...and they want to know if your Roof A/C's work....both of mine do, but I rarely use them...

Anyhow let me see where the closest RV dealer is...

On second thought, think I'll just mail order...get sick of driving 10-20-30 miles, just to find out a place is closed, or doesn't have what you need...

I wanna start getting this RV back in tip top shape, one piece at time...even if I sell it, I plan on getting another one...

I love my RV, mainly cause it's mine...

    It's my home...sure, it's not Mansion...but it's mine...like a nice small apartment...that I can move or take anywhere...
No stinking landlord telling me how to maintane it, no stupid 20 year bank morgage, that as soon as I miss 3 payments they come and kick me out...nope, none of that...it's mine...and it feels good...

I have an older model, but it was kept up real nice by previous owners...who was a judge in Louisiana...how odd...

I own a RV that a Judge use to own...

Who would ever guess I'd own anything previously owned by a Judge of the law from Louisiana...

But they kept it up, had the money and income to...I was told they traded up, for a newer better model...

And it is my hope to do the same with this one someday...

It has a few issues that prevent it from being really road worthy...issues that can be fixed with money...

But also, you have to be able to find someone willing to work on these things...not all mechanics want to work on these older models...for they can be a pain...

If I could trade this one in for a newer, slightly smaller model, I'de even be willing to make payments for a year or two...to me, that's still far better than outright wasting money on an apartment or house...expecially when your single like myself...

I just have to decide if it's better to get a Motor home, or travel trailer...

A travel trailer is like an Motor home, the main difference being you tow it behind a vehicle...travel trailers have no engine or drive train...they must be towed...
There are advantages and disadvantages to that...just depends on your needs...

A motorhome is good, as long as the engine and tranny work...otherwise...they're of little use and become dead weight...

Anyways...just felt like sharing a few more thoughts on RV's...

An example of how much money people or couples waste on apartment rent...where the money just goes up in the air...

Let's just say average rent and associated costs are $800.00 a month...

    $800 x 12 = $9,600 dollas..(dollas is philly slang)(for effect)...

In two years, you would have spent $19,200 dollas, on rent...and all for what??
    To impress who?

Now if you were making payments on a nice used RV/motorhome...

you would out right own it in less than a year...and it would be yours forever, and you could take that $800 a month and invest it in your retirement or anything else...

Expecially as a single person, you got no business throwing away $800 a month on a small stuffy apartment or studio, that you can't take with ya anywhere...

At least with a good RV you can literally drive your home out of the path of tornadoes or hurricanes or wild fires, instead of watching it get destroyed...

This poor couple has to watch as their home is destroyed by a tornado...

Not only that, but who stays in one place for 20 years anymore?

10-20-30 year morgages are a joke now...it's not the Ward Cleaver era anymore where a guy or gal gets a job and stays there for 20 years...

The banks have really screwed many a people...and everyone has been duped into thinking they must go out and get a $400,000 house, instead of being content with economical, $10,000 used motor home or travel trailer...that they could either pay cash for or pay off in a few years...

Oh well...just thought I'd check in real quick...

    Went to RV dealership today...

I went to RV dealership today to buy some sealer...
And while there...took some photos...it was fun...I went inside of a few models...and dreamed...dreaming is fun...here are a couple of photos I took of a small but cozy travel trailer...

Totally nice interior...better looking, and more crisp, bright, and clean, than most apartments I've stayed in...
This is a 'pop out' model...meaning the side walls extend out for more room once parked...I use to be against pop outs...but maybe, just maybe, my mind is changing now...

And here's how it looked on the outside...

Nice cozy little model...easy to tow...could park this baby anywhere and live comfortably...
Who needs a house anymore...who needs to be a slave to the banks...when you could own one of these nice babies....

Taken at Dick Gores RV world, in Jacksonville, FL...

Thank you for contacting Dick Gore's RV World

Even though their sales men were kind of snobby...I mean unless your older, and have grey hair...they tend to
treat you like an oddity...but yet still I will give them credit for having this nice model on their lot...

    Lets go camping...

Hi, I haven't forgotten you all...
    I love RV's...and always will...

I tried to give this photo, I took, a really cheerful, summertime, Brady Bunch or Cleaver or Grizzwalds, look....or even the cheery Kool-aid commercials from the 70's...

I just wanted it to have a bright, fun look to it...to highlight how fun camping or living in a RV can be...
The above is a Fifth wheel...and can only be hauled from a pick-up truck, or even a semi-truck bobtail...

They are known for having really nice large master bedrooms, which are usually located in the front upper section...
I've been inside a few, and like the way they make use of room...
Fifth wheels, on the inside, just feel more roomier than your typical travel trailer...

But again..you need a pick-up truck to haul one...

Anyhow...hope every one is doing well...and enjoy your RV...

To sell or not to sell...

In times of financial hardship, it's very tempting to want to sell stuff you own...including your RV, if you happen to own one...

Bad thing is when you sell stuff, you hardly ever get the true value for what it's worth...market, or more so what it's worth to 'you'....

You just can't put a price on everything...not all value is measured through price...

My RV is my home, the minute I were to sell it...I'd be at the mercy of a renter again...or landlord...and that can be a bad thing...

i really don't pay nothing where I stay now...and still struggling...can't imagine if I had to go back to paying $350-$$600 a month on rent or room rental...

Sure, it's a small amount if you have a high paying job...but when your work situation is uncertain...$350-$600 a month can destroy you...in a heartbeat...then you fall behind ect ect...

And even at $350.00 a month for a room...that comes out to

    $4200.00 a year...

    $600.00 a month comes to $7200.00 a year...

Again, you could purchase a whole other RV for that price...a used one of course...but still...

A home is a home...a place to be alone, to have privacy, to reset yourself...a place to live, to exist, without being watched or supervised...and for a single person, that doesn't take a lot of space...heck, I did it in a van once...for 10 months...
But when inside of that van, as small as the space was, I still felt free...it was my space, regardless of how small it was...

Ok, I think I just talked myself out of selling RV...

    And that's why I write...good day...

Rent an RV...and see the country, without worrying about a Hotel...

    If ya can't buy, rent...
You can go anywhere, and not have to worry about Hotels or Motels...and can park as close to remote river or lake or cliff as nerves will allow...
