Christmas always triumphs...

My husband says my idea of heaven might be "always Christmas." Indeed, there is a local Christmas store which was named that before they changed their name to something less memorable...which I can't remember now! So needless to say...I kinda like the Christmas season.

Oh sure, Christmas has it's downside and negatives with the oft mentioned commercialization, the crowds, the traffic, disappointments, dashed expectations, possible family conflicts, potential loneliness, sometimes sad memories of happier times and loved ones no longer here etc. But to my way of thinking, Christmas always triumphs. Christmas is just such a mystical, nostalgic, captivating season.

Christmas is...
the sparkle in a child's eyes as they behold afresh some wonder of Christmas

a candle-lit midnight Christmas Eve service

the fragrance of pine as we bring in a fresh tree to decorate

the beauty of neighborhoods illumined by light displays...some tasteful and some gaudy, but all festive!

the coziness of a warm fire blazing under a mantel festooned with pine, ribbons and lights

the comeraderie of friends or family at a Christmas dinner party

the house "all dressed up" for Christmas

the clean beauty of freshly fallen snow (or here in the south observing such beauty on the front of a Christmas card)

the old, familiar Christmas carols which we have grown to love...

the festive holiday meals and elaborately decorated cookies and cakes and other goodies only present at this season ...

the generosity and benevolence of strangers which seems more prevalent at this season...

but most importantly the remembrance that Christmas is ...
The Divine love that pierced the eternal night in the form of a baby's cry.

Very nice blog Kay..I would love to take you to Gatlinburg in East Tennessee for the Christmas season of lights, music, snow and sleighs, and music. Their Christmas shops are open year round, and I can go in July and step right into Christmas
