Alcoholism...laying down the bottle..(or can)...

If alcohol could talk...

"You know you miss me baby, I love you and need you as much as you love and need me...
I am your friend, no one else understands you but me, no one else allows you to be 'free', and yourself, as I do.
Look, I know things were rough before, but if you come back, things will be different...just look how your feeling now, no where to go with your feelings, just you, youself, and society, a society where no one understands you...but I do...come back baby...
With love Alcohol....oh, and this songs for you.."

(song title:Baby come back)

Any one who has ever struggled with learning or re-learning how to cope with lifes issues again, without alcohol, can probablly relate to the above...silly as it may seem to some.

As with any addiction, the toughest part is always the first few days...and usually the notion to quit cold turkey often comes after an embarracing or scary moment...either in public, or while alone.
And the decision to quit is usually made while alcohol is still in your system...

Some people simply have to 'scare' themselves into quiting...for health reasons or other..(knee jerk reaction, brought about by the need for self preservation)..

But decisions based on knee jerk reactions, usually hold up about as well as 'rice paper' in a storm.
The decision to stop, or greatly modify use, has to be based on sound, logical reasoning, in order for it to hold.

And that sound logical reason won't be the same for everyone, but must be there in order for it to hold.

And something has to replace it, the void left by 'Alcohol, the seductive lover'

If not, a unification will soon occur, and justification for it...such as a few...

1. Well I tried stopping, but nothing changed and I didn't feel better
2. My life is empty, at least drinking makes me feel I'm not alone
3. Just one won't hurt...(oh what a trap)
4. My lifes so messed up now, not drinking won't make it better...so I may as well enjoy..

And on and on and on.

Reality can be scary, and seem very dull and dry, when one has avoided it for so long.

At first, everything seems scarier when your dry...

Bill collecters seem more scary, your wife or husband may seem more scary, your job may seem more scary, being unemployed may seem more scary, being broke, without money will seem more scary, even relatives may seem more scary...or laying down at night alone, may seem more scary...life in general, may seem more scary, when you go dry.

Or even getting to know yourself again, may seem more scary when dry.

I have no magical solutions or cures in this first post...just trying to lay out the ground works, realities, of what some may go through after they have decided to lay down the bottle...

To be continued...

Odd thing is, I did research and found that people who drink 1-2 drinks a day...have a lower mortality rate, than either those who don't drink at all, or those who drink more than 1-2 a day...

But how many people are diciplined enough to drink 1-2 drinks a day, and stop?

Most cannot...once you have one, you want another, then another then another...

Alcohol actually robs people of a lot...
Robs you of confidence, robs you of energy, robs you of motivation, robs you of common sense, robs you of your health, robs you of your money, and can even rob you of your dignity.
And it robs you of your time and productivity...I could go on...
But all the time, it's telling you something completly different...

Look what it did to Mel Gibson...

Alcohol just seems to amplify whatevers already in you...can be scary when we witness this in others, but seldom notice it in ourselves...

Alcohol will kill you...some quicker than others...depending on your drinking habits and effects it has on your body...

No one likes to admit when they have a problem...

And sometimes the realities of life, can be more scarier than the consequences of alcohol...

excercising, martial arts, sports, I think would offer a great much healthier outlet...

    Why is alcohol evil?

Sometimes I even struggle with it...
But last night, as I woke up at around 1 am or so...I just lay there thinking to myself 'enough'...

Enough lost productivity, enough dampened motivation...enough destroying the body...enough of the depression that follows....from an accumilation of the above...

There's oher ways I can feel good other than alcohol...
    Like getting back into excercising...

But it won't be easy...never is...like trying to pull away from a black hole graviton...

    We shall see...
