Follow the yellow brick road

Some lessons we learn in our youth tend to take awhile to take root. For instance the one where Dorthy is told to "Follow the Yellow Brick Road." For Dorthy it was obvious what and where the road was. She simply looked on the ground and proceeded towards an unknown destination and result.
For most of us, the road is not always so clearly marked. It doesn't come with mile markers, directional signs or even exit ramps. INstead we tend to do what Daniel Boone had done and just blaze a trail forward.
We do share something in common with Dorthy and Toto in that we have NO IDEA what will be at the end of the journey.
Folks have attempted to be the captain of their own ship and steer a straight line towards retirement and serenity. Others have gicen the task of navigation to a significant other or a third party like an investment firm. Just as many have become lost as have landed safely using this approach.
Perhaps, one day, my wife and I will look back at the journey thus far and have a serious breakdown. Then again, the choices we are making today may just avoid what is otherwise an inevitable summary of our "3 hour cruise."
So it is with great anticipation that we have intiated some profound changes in our lives and our future.
We are ready (I am hoping she is) to leave the stick and brick community and head out on the road full time. With no real expectations of a retirement or pension, we will be working as we travel around this country. This move from Michigan to North Carolina has shown us that change is not only good, it is INVIGORATING!!
We will be posting here and eventually on our web site that should be up and running by June 2011.
We will be mobile and without a stick structure in June 2013....we'll send pictures of the dogs and other new friends periodically...
