A bitter young man named James once wandered through the countryside in search of a place to live. He arrived in a town and asked an elderly gentleman there what the people in the town were like. The older man asked, "What were the people like in the place you used to live?" James said, "They were rude and unfriendly." The older man said, "Well, that's what the people here are like, too." Upon hearing this, James moved on.
A while later, a kind young man named George, also in search of a place to live, arrived in the same town. He asked the same elderly gentleman what the people in that town were like. Once again, the older man asked, "What were the people like in the place you used to live?" George said, "They were polite and warm." The older man said, "Well, that's what the people here are like, too." Upon hearing this, George decided to stay.

When I first came to Long Beach Calif,I stayed with my older sister-upon my first day there she schooled me as she was leaving for work-"now Diane you cant talk to strangers here, like you can back home-TALK TO NO ONE" they will kidnap, rape, and kill...with all that said i decided to take a walk-see the area alittle...I walked along ocean Blvd and wound up in a small place called Belmont shore,,i then realized that id walked to far and was now lost! I saw a young woman pulling into her garage so i approuched her and told her that i was new to the area and lost i asked if i could borrow her phone-she told me NO,i then walked away and then thought maybe she thinks im going to steal her phone..so i then asked could you please call this phone number and tell them where i am,She told me NO..so i walked along, still not seeing a payphone, and that darkness started to fall-i then started crying..wondering how i would find my way back..needless to say,i later found a phone and made my way home safely..later that evening i told my sister of what happened and she replied"Diane the people here are like that for a reason",there are so many bad people here that they take the good out of you...I thought back to my father-that would never pass up a women stranded on the side of the road-and sometimes he even fixed their cars-for free..I just smiled to think of how lucky i am to even know that there really are kind people in the world-it starts at home
