The Awakening - Spring 2011

Posted 04-04-2011 at 09:58 AM by slamont61

Whew, we've made it through yet another rugged Nothern Minnesota Winter! This one wasn't so bad, no long string of double digits below zero. While the snow has for the most part melted, the signs of Spring have yet to appear, the ones sent up by Mother Nature that is. Every where else it's beginning to pop up.

Families are beginning to take walks together, Mothers with the strollers, the kiddies on little bikes. Dog walkers are casual instead of hurried. The weather is playing ping-pong, some days a tad bit warmer than others. It's a nice time of year - as long as you don't live next to a river or creek.

So, how was your winter? Any issues in travel or about town? I had to be pulled from a snow drift during one storm. Sebeka's most excellent Police Chief Eric Swenson was kind enough to strap my Jetta to his truck and free me up. Thanks Eric! Mr Snowplow had littered my freshly shoveled driveway causing me to hang up while trying to re-enter. Darn you Mr Snow Plow! Other than that it was smooth sailing the rest of the way. Eric was busy pulling may of Sebeka's residents out of deep snow as he patrolled all the Snow Storms.

I will miss the quiet solitude of the Minnesota winter. It's amazing just how much the snow baffles any sound. Alas I won't have to wait too long as Winter will be back around before you know it. In the mean time, I'm ready for the out-doors to welome us all with Tics and Mosquitos, yeah it's almost that time of year again.

Yes it's Spring Time in Rural Minnesota, soon the highways will be jammed with RV's Trailers and Boats all heading Northward to their Summer Nesting Grounds. The ebb and flow of weekend warriors will also make the scene. Highway 71 seemingly was built for that.

So Spring, where are you hiding? We're ready for you...
