Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Even More Scattershooting / TV Silliness Reaches An All-Time High

Posted 02-17-2011 at 08:10 PM by case44

I'm back with you once again for another rousing round of scattershooting. We're just going all over the place so much that you won't know what hit you. So, let's sit back, relax, and enjoy the proceedings henceforth from my fingertips to your eyes (as opposed to lips and ears).

You wonder why television is a mess right now, and the following is yet another example right here. The great Alex Trebek, master of class and subdued excitement as one of TV's all-time great game show hosts, has flipped. It may be the people who put the show "Jeopardy" together that may really be the ones flipping. A computer has spent some time as a contestant on the show recently. I haven't seen the episodes nor will I, but I have read about the travails of the two human contestants who had to play against a dad-gummed computer.

Boy, don't you just long for a trip back to when Art Fleming hosted "Jeopardy"? He would not have allowed for this travesty to take place. Sheeeez, Louise......

An update for you now on something I've posted a while back. I mentioned something about Blue Bell Ice Cream's vanilla/chocolate chip not being sold in the Dallas area. Well, there have now been three occasions where I've been able to purchase my favorite flavor in local stores, but this is not every day where this sort of thing takes place. If only, you know.

Nevertheless, your favorite blogger will continue to be on the lookout for it wherever he shops. Sales and sellings of certain products tend to go in phases. Almost like the seasons of life.

Remember the Chairman of the Board? I mean, the Chairman, Mr Frank Sinatra? His daughter shares a few thoughts about dad and the Rat Pack. Some of this may surprise you.

I can finally get KNCT-FM's (91.3, Killeen, Texas) streamlining on my computer. They've made adjustments to their website and have made it more flexible per the different computers people use. One more station now being added to my collection of stations that I listen to here at home. By the way, KNCT is the only station I know of in Texas with an easy listening format (what we like to call elevator music), something that was largely popularized back in the 1970s. You don't see much of those anymore.

Much of our nation is already feeling the effects of what could be an early spring. As a Texan living in the Sun Belt, I am born ready for spring to be sprunged. Hope this stuff stays with us until, oh, about October. Temperatures in Dallas have lately been in the 70s, such a departure from the abomination that was two weeks ago, when we couldn't get above freezing.

As if we actually needed more TV remakes (and folks, these things are meaningless), NBC has the gall to bring back "Wonder Woman" to the small screen.

And the woman to take Lynda Carter's old role is none other than.......

And now, it's time again for our Word Of The Day. Today's word is step. Each day we live, we have to keep in proper step with one another. When you walk, where you step makes a big difference between keeping balance and falling down. At the circus, the ringmaster would yell, "Step right up!" And I now must do my final sentence as I step aside from another round of scattershooting here on Case's Column. After all, it's bedtime.

And there you are.
