This blog is basically to chart my progress in trying to lose weight...

This is a Record of my daily events including my family when appropriate for my other family members to see if they choose to.

This is my legacy, for my family to read after I am dead and burried. So, any thing on here is meant for them only and if it offends anyone, my apologies, but, its not meant for you and them

Chow for now...

May the LORD Bless all who see this.

I wish you well...

Just got back from my exercise session, and it didnt go as planned.

I was doing the usual routine, with the abdominal crunches, when an old guy came around, and was watching me, (as if he was waiting in line for the machine!). I didnt want to be a 'hog' about it, so, I only did half of my 1000 reps, and left for another machine. Turns out, he didnt really want it after all, and someone else got it for a short while.
I tried to 'go back' to the machine, but, I couldnt get the rhythm back, and gave up after only another 100 reps.

I told my Wife... Im going to have to 'start' being a hog on the machine, and concentrate on 'me', instead of worrying about anyone else.
I know, it seems awful selfish to me, but, when ever my rhythm is broken, or interrupted, I cant go back and pick it up again! I need to follow though with the 1000 and, if some one else wants it, they can wait!! After all, those old geezers are retired just like me, so, they have all the time in the World to get to the machines...

They have what is called the 'silver sneaker' thing going on, and the parking lot is always full, when we get there. Seems like every senior citizen from four Counties are there!!
(Real pain, when trying to get the machine I want, and some of them dont even bother wiping down the machines, so that plain disgusted me, and prompted me to want to just up and leave!). Fortunately for me, I curbed my disgust and kept at it, until I was totally exhausted again. I find that I cant do my usual routine anymore, and am getting more tired, and its probably because Im staying away too long, in between sessions. I let me Wife know that, and of course, she said she offered to take me yesterday, but, at 5pm, and after I have eaten, my pain meds dont kick in as readily, so I have to do it in the mornings, when I havent anything on my stomach, 'but' the pain meds, then I can feel it working, and can exercise through the 'buzz'... Today, there was no buzz, and that could of accounted for me not doing as much.

I almost felt like. I was getting a hernia when I did my first 100 crunches, on my right side!! I was doing them pretty fast, trying to complete the session , because that guy was behind me, waiting. But, it evened out, and I was ok. I just have to take it slower, no matter what people think of me .

OK, my Wife is going to see our Neighbor Lady in the Nursing Home today. She went yesterday, but, they were setting down to eat, and she didnt stay, nor did she leave the scrap book and candy for her.

I have to go out later and get her a big bag of potato chips for Valentines Day LOL! Yep, thats what she wants... Being a diabetic, and her sugar being at 187 or there about all the time, she wants chips instead of candy. I truley have a very unconventional Wife and she does amaze me at times, but, Im so lucky to have her.

What is it, day nine, or so, and she still cant hear worth a hoot! She is still taking all the meds the doc gave her, and we are hoping that this is only temperary, but, her Mother couldnt hear worth a hoot either, and my Wife is really starting to think this may be a permanent set in!! I sure hope not... it doesnt make for good harmony in the home, when everyone has to shout at one person all the time, for them to hear, and sometimes, she can, and tells us we are screaming!! So, this can be infuriating.

Really something, when she sits near the TV a lot to hear, and goes out of the room, and all of a sudden, one of those 'loud commercials' come on, and she comes in and tells me that the TV is way too loud!! Like, a no win situation at its best, I reckon LOL

Oh yea, I almost forgot, gotta remind my Wife to pick up all the prescriptions from the Doctors office. We are sending them in, and getting a 3 months supply now, for the prescriptions. Saves us money in the long run, and we have all generic now, instead of paying 80 bucks for a few, here and there! That can run us into the poor house after awhile!

Tomorrow, I will spend most of my day doing my taxes with Turbo Tax. Since its mid February, and I read on Yahoo, that you shouldnt file your taxes, until, mid February, because the Congress didnt get the new regulations to the IRS, and into the computer, until late, thats when they recommended we send them in, so, the computers dont 'kick' them back out and have a problem with that.
Always something...

After I fill out the taxes, I have to fill out the FAFSA or what ever those initials are, to see if my Daughter can get help with College Tuition.
I still dont know about that...her going to College??? Just dont know if she is 'serious' about College, or, just wants to get away from home, so she can 'party' or go nuts in school?

But, we are sending her to a two year College that is close, for right now, so see if she is going to actually want to take College seriously or not. If she does go through the two year College and I see she is applying herself, then I wont mind taking on a lot of debt, and helping her through a 4 year College, but, she will have to prove herself to me first.
If she doesnt want to 'work' while in College, then thats going to weigh heavily against her, in my opinion. She has to show me 'responsibility'. After all, my Son worked while in College, and on Summer breaks, (yea, she may hate to be compared to my Son, but, in this regards, its the yardstick that I have to use, because she will have to pay for a lot of things, in order to help the situation).

OK, diatribe is over for today, now, lets see if I can stay awake long enough , so I dont mess my sleep pattern up for tonight

I wish you well...

Good for you in your workouts, Jesse! Sounds like you are truly making an effort to get progress on your fitness plan.

If I may offer a small bit of advice (I am a formerly certified fitness trainer), it is best to NOT do your crunches fast. That rocking rhythmic crunch you describe is actually only tiring you, but not actually working the abs.

With your knees at 45 degree angle, and a slight hollow under the small of your back -- otherwise flat to the mat, S-L-O-W-L-Y raise your shoulder blades from the mat, rolling them forward into the "crunch." Start doing maybe 25 this way, counting to four from start to top of crunch, and then counting to four in the return.

See how you feel two days later before returning to do more. (Generally it takes two days for the muscles to respond and recover.)

    Best wishes!

Actually, Im using a machine Cybex Eagle designed it...
Its made for a 'skinny person', so, instead of sitting on the seat with my legs in the pedals (with straps), I have to stand up and bend over that bar, and bend it down, until it stops, then bring it back up, until it stops again.
I do this at varying weights...
I start out at 100 pounds this time, with 500 crunches,
    110 pounds with 200 crunches
120 pounds with 250 crunches and then
    130 pounds with 50 crunches...

I cant lay on the ground and try to do 'real crunches', because the small of my back is where the arthritus is focused (last three vertabraes are narrowed from arthritus now), and I have to stand up with the machine to do it.

I try my best, with the limited abilties I have, to do what I can, to attain my goals

But, with out my pain meds, taken about 20 or so minutes before I start my exercise routine, I could only do a few of this and that, so, the meds give me enough 'edge' to forget about the pain that I have, and allow me to do a whole lot of things I normally couldnt even attempt!!

Eventually, I hope that I get down in weight, to not have to do so much, so I can forego the pain meds...but, until that day finally arrives, its 'better living through Chemistry' LOL

    I wish you well...
