Paranormal activity 2 (movie review)

Posted 02-10-2011 at 12:35 PM by Time and Space

I've never done a movie review here before...however I feel Paranormal Activity II needs such a review in a place where the review won't be buried or followed by a Beavis and Butthead response...

Very rarely do sequels live up to the first...but in this case, I do believe it did...

Like the first one the film cleverly, and slowly, lures you into the enviornment...

It takes about 5-10 minutes to settle into a film...and it's as if the director knows that...so as your 'settling' in...so are the characters...

The film, the whole video camera/survelliance camera angle, makes you apart of the household...so that you feel your actually there with them, know them, their habits, likes dislikes...then it stops feeling like a 'movie' and more like a 'documentary'...(clever)

Much credit has to go to the actors for acting 'natural'...in a way that doesn't make them seem like their acting at all...

Another reason I think this film 'worked'...is their ability to make it a 'reality based' story line...in other words while watching your like

'Hey, I think that's happened to me also'...

They're very subtle about that in the film...and I'm glad they resisted the video game, cartoonish action gore that has really shortened the attention span of millions of movie goers; who if they don't see blood and gore in the first 5 minutes are bored and twitching in their seats or making a cell phone call.

Paranormal activity II was a gift to those of use who still like slowly brewed tea vs tea in a plastic bottle.

The horror pace was a bit quicker in P2...but was always still believable, and within the realm or 'wow, has this happened to me before'...

It takes a very special director and cast to scare you using your own fears, rather than props...and a special audience to recieve it.

This movie played out like a horror symphany, slowly building up to a spectacular ending...one that won't disappoint...

And in closeing...I'm so glad they didn't go the route of 'Blarewitch' II...which was a disaster...

Blair witch 1 made a bit of money, and the original writers must of sold their rights to a large Hollywood studio and lost their creative rights or something...

Cause Blair Witch 2 felt more like a 'Friday the 13th' installment.

Anyhow I'm in a rush...I can't say enough good things about this film, for those who like being creeped out in a realistic way...

I'll add a few more thoughts on it later...
