Health Care Reform in America

Posted 02-02-2011 at 08:58 AM by LookinForMayberry

I've been reading the news -- like the "writing on the wall" -- the dirge song for our prospects of making health care available to the millions of Americans that were formerly denied. All because of our fears and ignorance.

For once, we almost did something to benefit American people, and now it will die an early death because too many of us listened to paid advertising and fear mongers.

I hurt for those that will face pain, crippling, loss of livelihood, and even death because their untreated ailments will remain untreated. I hurt for their dependents that will be denied a fair start in life, because they depend on those be-felled by illness or trauma.

I hurt for us in our narrow-minded, mean spirited souls.

So many want to boast about how great we are in America. Yet here we are, the most affluent nation on Earth, and we begrudge anyone in our society less capable than our most fit.

I am in my mid-50s, and face my older years knowing I live in a society of wolves.

At least I can thank God that my DH and I have remained strong, healthy, and employed to this point. Even during our two year sabbatical we were able to pay for our health insurance -- thank God. My DH had two situations during our travels that required costly treatments. Our coverage wasn't 100%, but it helped.

Sadly, with the reduction in coverage over the past decades, just coverage alone isn't always enough -- but it is at least something.

My neighbor paid his premiums for more than 50 years, and his wife's demise and death has bankrupted him. I learned from that that health care as it presently exists is responsible for a majority of our bankruptcies.

I'd hoped the Reforms would correct that, too. Now, my hopes are sinking, fast.

For those that tried to support this reform, I commend you. For those that listened to the paid advertising and hate-mongers, I pity you.

We will all suffer your consequences together, but at least those that tried will know they did.

All I know is, my premiums and everything about my health insurance has risen, and some of my benefiets have either lessened or dissapeared!! All because of the Insurance Companies wanting to make thier fortunes, before health care was inititiated!!

Its a noble cause, but, making those who dont 'want' health Insurance, is a crime in my opinion. It sparks of Socialism, and we are not in Russia, or the old Soviet Socialist Republic, we are in the United States, land of the Free and the Brave!

Though, the Coorporate greed of Wall Street has caused this huge mess of Unemployment and troubled Housing Industry, its not going to keep up for too much longer. Eventually, it has to turn around.

Ive told my Wife, because my Health Insurance is not covering a lot of my tests, (making me pay a huge amount of money out), its putting us in the poor house, and that I have refused my Doctors of any more tests, simply because of it!! I will not bankrupt my family! Until we get it down, Im done with tests... Thanks Obama Care!! Those who 'have' insurance, are insurance poor, because of your baloney!

Socialism...sheesh! Democrats, when you cant get a job.. Thank your fearless leader!! The Companies wont hire because they dont know what they will be paying out!!

    I wish you well...

Thanks for your comments, Jesse. I do have to point out that it is not President Obama that raised your rates, it is the Insurance Companies -- who happen to be the same ones (along with Health Care Lobbyists) that have paid for the advertising and the spewed the fear mongering.
