Back from Port Charlotte Florida Vacation
I've been back now for several weeks from my vacation to Florida. It was a great time. The weather was gorgeous and we boated, swam, and just hung out (with my family). My folks have a nice place down there where the back of their house is on a canal which leads to the Myakka River. From it, they can access the Gulf Of Mexico if they want to, though it is about a 45 minute ride by boat. My dad has his boat on a lift and just drops it in the water whenever he wants to go. We had to be careful of the tides, as this time of the year there are lots of times when it is low, or very low, tide. But it wasn't too bad. Something I could definitely live with. One day, we boated to a restaurant/bar built out over a pier on the Peace River called Harpoon Harry's. It was a fantastic time. We saw some dolphins from the pier, and do you look cool pulling up to a waterfront restaurant on your boat..?! Umm, yes you do!
Port Charlotte itself is nice but is definitely more for retirees. There are some nice restaurants and places to go, but the nearest large airports (Ft Myers or Sarasota) are about an hour away. They have a nice big and clean Wal Mart, and the Gulf Cove neighborhood they live in is close to the Gulf beaches.
If anyone out there is an avid boater and looking for affordable waterfront property with Gulf of Mexico access (albeit a longer ride to access) - the zip code of 33981 is a good place to look..! My folks just bought a year ago, and prices are down 50% from just 4 years ago, even for places on the water.
SINCE I've been back from this glorious break from real life, I've been super busy with work and getting my Seattle home fixed up in order to sell. This past weekend I painted my downstairs kitchen. It's really coming along but there is always more to do. I'm counting down; 9 weeks until I want to have the house on the market for sale..!!
here is some info on Port Charlotte and a pic of my parents backyard..!
