The Florida Trip Christmas 2010

Started out the last blog with just having returned from St. Augustine and then I ended up in the mountains of West Virginia on a hot July day in 2009. Well, during Christmas break we headed for Florida.
We had found the St. Augustine web site last year just before Christmas. It was beautiful. Too bad we justy found it and Christmas was just 6 days away. Besides we had already committed to traveling to Michigan to see the kids--but NEXT year we would consciously plan to be in St. Augstine for 2021. It was too beautiful not to experience!
We prepared for Florida by readying the trailer. YIKES! We had to get a brake controller on the Dodge...and it was December 17. A quick call to the local RV shop had us scheduled for the 23rd to have the controller installed. Plenty of time for us to be in Savannah for our Christmas Eve river boat cruise, right?
As luck would have it, the Dodge wasn't picked up until 5:00 P.M. and there was no way we could be on the road and make any real progress that day. So we decided to move out on the morning of he 24th and be in Savannah by 1:00 P.M. if we left NC by 5:00 A.M.
As we left NC the forecast called for light snow in Raleigh and cooler temperatures along the east coast from Wilmington to Daytona FL. If the runors on the weather forum were true, there was going to be more than a few inches in Raleigh and I wanted to be well out in front of any possible storm with a 30 foot travel trailer.
