    Hi,
I lived in the upstate for 6 + years before moving to the Tri-cities area of VA-TN

Though I am white, I had the opportunity to make friends with people of a number of different races and backgrounds through my occupation.

The feedback I got from them about the racial climate was pretty mixed. Minorities that had moved there from the Northeast usually expressed that they did not like the attitudes of many whites in the upstate towards them. There were exceptions to this, but that was the majority opinion I got.

Minorities from other parts of SC on the other hand seemed to feel that it had been an improvement moving from say Columbia or Charleston to the Upstate.
