Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Bird-Watching Season Is Back - Well, Kind Of....

Posted 11-19-2010 at 01:24 PM by case44

You know something's coming in a matter of days. Yeah, I know. Christmas tunes played non-stop on the soft rock stations, and that is coming, but that's not what I'm talking about here. You've waited, what, only a year for it, right? I'm talking about the Thanksgiving tradition known as the turkey, which will be basting in ovens all over America come November 25. Remember the old TV commercial where the ketchup bottle is used to pour the red goodness atop a burger or next to the fries, and the person on the TV waited.............and waited..........and waited, all to the tune of Carly Simon's "Anticipation", as it's making him wait?

That's what we'll be dealing with on Thanksgiving Day. Sure, you and I will be visiting with friends, family, in-laws, outlaws, and loved-ones while dinner is being prepared. But can't you just anticipate the turkey as it is cooking in the oven? What a glorious yearly event to take place right where you are. Or, perhaps, right where you'll be if where you are isn't. You will see all of the fixins that go with it, and I know they vary from person to person. But the turkey, the bird, the mouthwatering delight that has become a tradition for years?? That's the one constant. Don't you love to just looooooooook at it as it's cooking? It will be in the oven (except for those of you with a penchant for deep-frying). And it will be ready for you and for me to partake for the kickoff of the holiday season.

And, of course, for another kickoff, depending on what football game you'll be watching.

Shame the Stores are bypassing Thanksgiving and going right to Christmas now! Whoever heard of Stores advertising and singing Christmas Carols BEFORE Thanksgiving!!?? My Dad always thought it would be the end of the World if they started doing THAT...
Good thing he is 95 and lived to see this, now he must have figured he has seen everything... sheesh.

    I wish you well...

I'm not really all that worried about the stores. I'm actually looking forward to next Friday when people will be out at malls in my area, and that will include me. But the Christmas theme is getting earlier every year, so they might as well consider doing this next August.

Hope you're looking forward to the food every bit as I am......

    Happy Thanksgiving to all!

I'm looking forward to it. The parade has become tiresome in recent years, but at least there's an extended weekend of football.
