A message on my life in and around bridgeport
I was born in Bridgeport and lived here and the surrounding cities all my life ... I spent 21 years in Milford and due to the death of my father, my apartment was sold from under my feet ... and I ended back in Bridgeport again. I love and hate this city. It is commonly known as " The Armpit of U.S.A. " ...
We were here till I was in 7th grade, then we moved to Fairfield. I learned there that if you werent in a "clic" you didnt stand a chance in Fairfield . I went to and graduated from Andrew Warde, now Fairfield High ... They were 4 of the hardest and saddest years of my life. After graduating and a recovering from a life-threatening illness, and a trip to Bermuda which was paradise, ( WISH I could live there.) I returned and commuted to New Haven daily for Hairdressing School ... I spent some time living there ... New Haven was then in 1973 an awesome place to be ... After that I spent a very short, but absolutely marvelous time living in West Redding in a tiny little house with my husband and child ... He left us and my child and I stayed on for a few months. I can honestly say that of ALL the places I have lived , West Redding was the most wonderful place. From there my son and I moved to Milford where I stayed for 21 or 22 years ... Milford is a kind of red-necky city, but very quaint and for the most part friendly. It has a EXCELLENT school system ... Then, as I stated above, After 21 years of secure living, my dearest friend, My father became ill with a long term illness and died 2 years later ... I ended up back in Bridgeport, where I hadnt lived since I was 11 ... Both sets of my grandparents lived happily in Bridgeport all their lives ... My apartment in Milford was a VERY large 3 rooms with a balcony and LOTS of storage in the basement, but I was what I feel was forced to make a decision to take a 0 bedroom apartment on the 8th floor of a high rise on what I think is the nicest street in Bridgeport ... I can hardly hear the gunshots and motorcycles being on the 8th floor ... My neighbors for the most part, are lovely people, coming from ALL different places and origins ... I have a friend who was in the United States Navy he made a statement to me once, He said ... " Carole, I have been ALL over the world, but NEVER have I seen a place like Bridgeort in my life ... He said, he loved Bridgeport and would never leave it permanently."
So, To sum up what I feel about Bridgeport ... " It's a nice place to visit, but I wouldnt want to live there." It CAN be a great place for some ... Ethnically speaking Bridgeport is a "melting pot" ... There are people here from ALL over the world ... every background,, every country, every race ... It CAN be a great and positive place to stay and it CAN be a nightmare ... I guess it all depends on what neighborhood you choose to live in, If you own, the taxes are high ... If you rent, you are under the rule of your landlord ... I hate that !!! I have been lucky and unlucky in that department ... My landlord hides from me, making me feel as if I am left to make all the decision making ALONE ... Then he gets abrasive, rude, mean and angry at MY choices ... SO, after almost 3 years of living here, he has told me he wants me out of his apartment ... I'm so hurt and confused,I dont know what I want really or where to go now ... I am handicapped ... I can hardly walk and I face 3 surgeries in the next 3 years ... My young husband resides in Morocco and cannot help me at all... I have decided that I wont fight my landlord, but just move on ... Hopefully to a nice place in STRATFORD ... another place you might wish to look at in your search for where you want to buy your house or rent.
Ha ha ha ... Looks like I have written a short biography here, instead of just an answer about what Bridgeport was like ... I myself love this city and frankly I'd love to finish my days here.
