Noah's Ark (part 2)

The very next day, being a Saturday, I got up real early and pedal-powered myself to JT's house to tell him about my ideal. I had no ideal that JTs dad had plenty of "gopher wood" lying out back behind the shed. JT said it was gopher wood anyway. He said his dad kept it there for special occasions. After alot of thinking and not much planning, JT decided that the king size box spring mattress on his parents bed would be the best thing for us to use as a boat, and we could use the "gopher wood" to help hold it all together. He said he was sure that his momma wouldnt care as we pushed and shoved the mattress onto the little red wagon and down the hill.
Every boat has to have a flag, so we borrowed the orange flag off his sisters bike for that, and my dads boat paddle off his fishing boat.
Luckily, my two cousins from town had just got out of the car when I made the trip back to my house. Deckhands I thought!!
Away we went back across the pasture and up the hill to JTS house, we always took the shortcut when i wasnt on my bike, because of the barbed wire fence.
We had two problems now, no animals to put on board, and JT said we couldnt launch our "ark" without crucifying it first (he meant cristenting).
We spent a good hour chasing chickens, and thought about getting out the rabbits, but were afraid the dogs would eat them. So I called my dog, Bear, a German Shepard Mix, and JT got his three red bone hounds, plus about 6 red bone puppies, that were about 2 months old.
We managed to get all the dogs, three of us,minus JT, on the ark. Well ole JT had found a new bottle of Dr Pepper and he proceeded to "crucify" the ark with it and then he shoved us off. Believe it or not his mommas box springs did float, well that is almost, until we got in the middle of the pond. Thats when she started to sink. The dogs were the first to abandon ship. Worse became worse when I heard a yell from up close to JTs house. i guess his momma had just noticed the box springs missing and she was headed toward the pond with a flyswat in one hand and pointing at us with the other.
We all yelled and as we jumped off the the "ark", it finished its desent into the mighty depths of the cattle pond. Me and my cousins took off for home, via under a barb-wire fence and thru the woods, leaving JT to fight against the pirates (his momma)all alone.

You didn't! Their poor mattress... and those puppies. You didn't say what happened to the puppies. They were okay, right? What a bunch you were... I imagine JT really got it and was doing extra chores forever to make up for buying a new mattress. Too funny.

I had a Bear too! One of the best dogs that ever lived. He was a Husky/German Shepherd mix. I miss him... I imagine he's running around happily in Heaven right about now.

    Thanks for another great story.

The puppies swam to the side. JT never got in trouble for anything, thats probably why we spent so much time at HIS house-lol.
My dog Bear was also a husky/German shepard mix!

thank you for taking the time to read it!

arguy, have you ever considered writing childrens stories or books? Your vivid accounts of your past and the way you word things make you an ideal candidate to do so.
