Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken.
Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.![Stick Out Tongue](https://pics3.city-data.com/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!
Regards,

Lone Star Baseball Just Suddenly Got More Interesting
It's funny that a blog had been written earlier this year by yours truly about the woes of Major League Baseball in the state of Texas. Not shortfalls, mind you. Just lack of much success. This writer typed about the Rangers and the Astros and the fact that there has not been much post-season ado about either franchise.
In case you've missed it, here's your link.

Guess what's happening now? Five years after the Houston Astros make their first World Series appearance after several trips to the post-season, the Texas Rangers get to take their turn at the Big Show. Can you believe that, sports fans?? The Texas Rangers??? The ultimate poster child of futility in sports???
Believe it.
Yes, peeps, they are going. The New York Yankees are making some golf reservations while the Rangers are going to make some noise in their very first appearance at the Fall Classic via their first American League pennant. Texas, going in, had only won one playoff game in three previous post-season series. Now, they've won both the divisional and league championship series for this season. It actually does make a good storyline, what with Nolan Ryan getting league approval to take over part-ownership of this franchise, and it has served as good fortune so far. To think this franchise was swimming in the waters of bankruptcy just a few months ago. Now, the Rangers are going to really be making money off of what is becoming their most successful season to date, whether they win the World Series or not.
Where the Astros are concerned, they are making strides for a comeback that few thought possible this year. Thanks to some great draft selections and a trade or two for young prospects, Houston had some young players emerge in the second half of the regular season with strong pitching, grit, and effort. They could be closer to contention than people realize, and even guys like Steve Berthiaume at ESPN are predicting big things from the 'Stros in '11. Yeah, the article's a month old, but it still bears reading.
Baseball Tonight Clubhouse - ESPN
Baseball in Texas could get real interesting in the years ahead. If the Astros avoid a slow start and contend next season, then they, along with the Texas Rangers, will show the baseball world that they will be forces for others to reckon with. It's a refreshing change from the usual Yankees, Red Sox, and Dodgers who contend year in and year out. Something different is coming.

I wish I was in DFW for this. I remember when the Braves were in the WS during the '90's, and even here in NC there was excitement for it.
