I am all about being real with people. I mean, that is what you want, isn't it? When you ask a Realtor a question, don't you expect a REAL answer? One that requires some thought?

I have been in the Bluegrass area since I was a kid and a Realtor since 2005. I have watched it grow and change. My blog is all about what is happening right now with our market, my thoughts on neighborhoods, and the future.

I hope you enjoy it!

So You're Moving to Lexington KY: Part 2, Schools

Posted 10-18-2010 at 01:43 PM by LEXpert

Now that we've covered some basics about Lexington, how about I bust into answering the first question people always ask me when they find out they are moving here? Ready for it? Here it is: "What is a good, safe part of town with good public school?" I usually tell people to check out the crime map at http://crimewatch.lfucg.com/. That is easy. Now for schools…..it kind of begs the question, "What really makes a school good?" To most, I think they mean test scores. But I think there must be more to it than that since you can go to one of many sites that rank schools by numbers, parent review, etc. I usually just stick with telling people what are the most desirable ones based on living here for the past 25 years and being a parent!

Let’s assume you are in the move up market, which is about $250-500k here. The good thing is that you have lots of choices. I usually tell people it depends on what you want to be around and if you must have the best performing schools or not.

When somebody says they have to have the absolute best performing school, or when they have kids in more than one school, I usually tell them the best place to start is in SW Lexington, which is between Nicholasville and Versailles Roads. Some popular choices are: Rosa Parks, Picadome, and Stonewall Elementary, Jessie Clark and Beaumont Middle, and Dunbar High School. If you want an older house inside the circle, a good combination is Cassidy Elementary, Morton Middle, and Henry Clay High School.

I'll try to add a little bit of info every day or so, but if you have any questions, just let me know!
