I am all about being real with people. I mean, that is what you want, isn't it? When you ask a Realtor a question, don't you expect a REAL answer? One that requires some thought?

I have been in the Bluegrass area since I was a kid and a Realtor since 2005. I have watched it grow and change. My blog is all about what is happening right now with our market, my thoughts on neighborhoods, and the future.

I hope you enjoy it!

So you're moving to Lexington Ky: Part 1

Since this is my first post in this series, I thought I would cover some basics that will help you out as you seek info on Lex.

Basically, the local folks pretty much divide the whole town into 4 parts. You have inside and outside of New Circle Road (Called "The Circle") and the north and south side of town.

Generally, the south side of town is preferred by most people. The schools on that part of town seem to perform a little better and that is where you'll find most of the retail/dining in town. But overall, the south side that people refer to is anything between Richmond Road and Versailles Road....on the southern part of the map. I think we really need a new category called the east side, since there is a lot over there too. That area kinda gets grouped with the south side by some since it is considered a piece of the preferred part of town. This area is between Richmond Road and Winchester Road.

The Old Lexington types seem to prefer to be inside New Circle Road. Those newer to Lexington seem to only care about being on the South side of town. Many Old Lex people think anything outside "The Circle" is just a bunch of cookie cutter homes, which, IMHO can be said for older parts of town too. I mean, some of our most coveted neighborhoods are filled with houses that are all very similar to each other. Don't understand this bias, but it is there.

I hope to spend the next several posts telling you all about schools, traffic, crime, neighborhoods, and what to expect when it comes time to pick a house.

Hope this helps you out as you navigate around, learning about our town!
