Moving into my balance?

Posted 10-06-2010 at 06:26 AM by LookinForMayberry

Before the trip, I lived the majority of my life in my future. Always, I looked to that point ahead when I would be happy. It would be when I finished school, got that job, that promotion, that apartment, that house, that dog, out of town, on the road....

Out there on the road, finding wherever I went, there I was, I realized it was ME I was trying to get away from, and so were others, probably. What a self-centered twit I was -- (and still am, though I hope I am getting less so in that regard).

Now, I'm trying very hard to ignore the future AND the past. Both can be very distracting from this moment, and this moment is all that is real. This moment IS my life. Thank God.

This moment, I've got a cooling cup of decaf at my side. My DH is playing with Bigun in the next room, and I'm taking a few minutes to reconnect with myself (emails, to do list, mail, etc) before jumping into the shower, dressing, and heading for the office. Praise God for all those blessings.

In the beginning, it was very hard to get into the faster pace of life off the road. It's getting easier, but I still have not figured out time in my day for a gym visit, or volunteer work. I have started reconnecting with friends on Saturdays. Every remaining Saturday this month is booked.

On the 16th, my Saturday is booked with a workshop on becoming an advocate for the homeless. That is my primary target group for volunteer work, so I am hoping I can find a way to participate in that effort over time with my schedule. At the same time, I am trying to keep focused on THIS moment, and not let that future moment catch me up.

How do care-givers keep balance? DH and I have only ourselves and the dogs, and we are ALWAYS busy. There never seems to be enough time for all the have to stuff. I guess that's why it's called "balance."

One NOW at a time....
