Being Thankful

Yesterday I spent 2 hrs at an ICU unit, visting my friends mother. I never meet the lady untill yesterday. Her son in law called me to tell me that one of the things keeping her from giving up is this blanket that she is knitting for my newborn. She wants to finish it he said. I decided to go see her at the hospital because I figured this might be the last chance I get. I went there and sat with her. You could see the frustration and the pain in her eyes because of her inability to communicate, however she never stoped smiling. I thanked her for the blanket she's making for my daughter, held her hand and told her I'll be back to visit. Then left the hospital in tears. It made think about so much we take for granted. Being abel to open my eyes and get out of bed in the morning. How many of us do it everday, effortless, it's second nature. Sadly to a lot of people it's not. It made me think about how much food is wasted here in the U.S.A and that brought back memories from my travels to Africa.
Be greatful for all that you have and help others when you can.

I'm glad you took the time to visit with her. A little kindness goes a long way... You're right. So much to be thankful for, and it's all too easy to take things for granted.

What a blessing she is and you too for sharing your story with us. If everyone who reads your blog says a prayer, I'm sure many blessings will come her way.

That is a very sweet and meaningful story.
I spent quite a few hours sewing up the holes that were made in some well worn, and highly used, security blankets, this weekend. This lady knew the value that the blanket would have for the new little baby.
Bless her............Posted 08-03-2008 at 06:30 PM by Summering
