Back home from our weekend in Iowa

Posted 09-05-2010 at 06:34 PM by CSD610

Another weekend of traveling for Sneakers and I and the dog. We left Friday morning after the stitches were removed and got to Iowa about 5 hours later. We went to Muscatine and took care of a vehicle that we had there that needed to be taken to the junk yard. About 1.5 hours later we finally left there. Went to the local bank and cashed the check we got for junking the vehicle. Then to West Liberty to our friends home where we stay when we are in Iowa.

They were not home but the door was unlocked so we went in, got comfy and took a nap. When she got home we tried to call him on cell phone but no answer. We waited about 30 minutes then went to the local country club which is about 4 blocks from their home and had the most wonderful steak dinner. Then back to their home and I stayed up for about 30 minutes then I went to bed. It was about 8:30pm. I have no idea what time Sneakers and the dog came to bed.

Saturday we went into Iowa City early and got the exhaust system on the Suburban fixed. That was expensive, $345.40 later we started back to West Liberty to pick up the dog then on to Mt. Pleasant, Iowa for the Old Threshers Reunion. It was very busy, very crowded, and we had an absolutely wonderful time. The weather was perfect, the dog was great around everyone, we saw lots of old tractors, old trucks, sang in the old church choir, had a dill pickle and the biggest grilled chicken breast sandwich I have ever seen. We walked around the grounds for about 7 hours.

Sneakers bought me a beautiful necklace from one of the many stands there. We watched an old steam powered printing press, watched the steam engine trains, watched all the people walking around and found some of the best brewed iced tea there. The hand made furniture was incredible and expensive, the metal art work was very impressive but the quilts and crocheting not so much. I was a wee bit disappointed in the hand made home items this year.

We did not ride the train or the trolley or the carousel however, we did not think they would allow the dog to get on so we walked and walked and walked and then walked a wee bit more. I am sure I walked off the 4 pounds I have been trying to lose this last couple weeks. I am as of this morning down to 170 pounds from 174 where I have been for the last two weeks. YAY for me and I continue losing slowly.

The drive was long, the walking was longer, the food was wonderful, the parking place we had was just as wonderful and we could not have asked for a better day weather wise. I am pretty sure the entire world that surrounded me during those moments I was there were absolutely perfect.

Anyway, back to our friends house, supper at 7:00pm and I was again in bed by 8:30pm. This morning I got up early as usual, showered, dressed and started gathering our things to get put back in the Suburban. Sneakers and the dog were still in bed. Our friends left about 7:15am and Sneakers finally got up about 9:30am. He tested, put everything in the Suburban, took the dog for a stroll and we left.

One stop on the way to get fresh coffee, fresh gasoline and a personal pan pizza that we shared. Then on to Mt Pleasant where we picked up other friends and had lunch with them. It was great to see them and visit for a bit. We have not been able to see them for a couple years so we had a lot of catching up to get done in a short period of time.

We took them back to the Old Threshers grounds where they were camping and we headed home. Arrival home was right at 5:00pm and amazingly enough I am still awake but will be going to bed very very soon.

Sneakers brought in most of what we took with us and he is watching television, I am on the computer and the dog is passed out right smack in the middle of our bed. I have a feeling he is not going to want to move anytime soon.

So we are home and settled in and I am looking forward to a nice relaxing day tomorrow except for all the laundry that now needs to be done.

I wish you are a very wonderful, relaxing fun filled Holiday tomorrow, take care, be safe and don't forget to put up your dream catchers.

More later ~~~~~~~
