Real Estate CONSULTANT or Real Estate Salesperson???

Posted 08-22-2010 at 07:16 PM by VickiR

The economy is sucky. People are losing their jobs. It is a fact. The interesting part is that people want to become Realtors because they think they'd be good at SALES.

Just last week, I heard from THREE of my previous clients who wanted to know if I thought they'd be good in "sales". Yes, that is what they all asked. One even told me that he has been taking "sales training".

Is it odd that I have NEVER considered myself a salesperson? My job is to HELP my clients. With my sellers, I must get their home to sell in the shortest amount of time and for the highest price. With my buyers, I need to find them a new HOME and get them through the maze from contract to closing. So, is my job a salesperson or a consultant?

I really believe I am a Real Estate Consultant. My clients know they can trust me. They know that I have most of the answers to their questions and if I don't, I will go to the source and get them an answer. They know I CARE about them and want what is best for them. They know they make their own decisions but I am another pair of eyes and another opinion. They know that I will do my best for them.

So, am I a Real Estate Salesperson? No. Real Estate is about relationships. It is about being genuine about what you are there for. If you value those relationships and do what is best for your clients, you WILL be succesful. It has nothing to do with sales.

Yes! I've been in this business 16 years, and I don't think I have ever "sold" a house.

I match my clients to the homes they want to live in, or I market my listings to attract the buyers who will like them and can afford them.

I have had multiple realtors and even took the course myself to be educated with regulations... by the end of the day, there are some very good realtors who really looks out for their client as oppose to make a quick commission, and then there are others who never have an opinion... in many instances I had a realtor, but researched and negotiated on my own. It would be be great to work with a consultant as oppose to a salesperson...
