Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Frying Eggs On A Texas Parking Lot: It Could Happen Today

Last time out, I discussed refrigerators. Now, we're going to go the polar opposite. You know it's August in my home state of Texas when the car thermometer reads 114 degrees the moment you turn on the ignition. That was exactly what happened as I left work this afternoon to come home and get on this computer. Whew!!! Texas in August is hotter than Hades in mid-season form. I guess what we should do is get some eggs and fry them outside.

Okay, perhaps after we power-wash the complex, we can do a number on the parking lot next to my abode, crack open a few eggs and fry them right there on the cement between the parking area and the garage. I'm serious. We should get some bacon, some sausage, and anything else that's griddle-worthy and bring them to a clean space outside in the hot heat. Bare feet should just keep away. Okay, perhaps you don't want to walk on the parking lot with bare feet; you'd get a nasty burn on your soles. Do keep in mind that this isn't really about food or someone's smelly feet, but about how hot things are in August in Texas. I checked the actual outside temperature at D/FW International Airport. 1-0-3. Whewwww!!! Glad the fans are at full blast. What's amazing is that a heat advisory has been posted for portions of Texas, but oddly enough, it doesn't include my area. East and Northeast Texas has them in effect via the auspices of the National Weather Service. Not Dallas. Not yet, anyway, even though the forecasts are calling for 104 for each of the next two days and 102 on Wednesday and on Thursday. It's like, Devil, stick a pitchfork in me, because I'm done. The hotter it gets, the more I use any A/C source possible. Great fun in the hot summer if you like a little heat.

Would you prefer your eggs scrambled instead?? After all, you don't know where that parking lot's been, considering the aforementioned bare feet brave enough to weather the course.

Be careful, some residents might try to eat the eggs and then attempt to sue you if they become ill...

I guess the summer has become normal again. It was about 97 in SA today. It felt like the Mojave Desert with the hot winds, though more humid of course. Maybe the weeds will grow slower, esp. the ragweed, but that will grow regardless of temp., I think. All it needs probably is moist soil, and there's plenty this summer.

Not if they can't see me doing it. The complex was very quiet today.
