Costa Mesa Community Gardens – 365 Things To Do In Costa Mesa

Posted 07-19-2010 at 08:22 PM by hollyschwartz

The Costa Mesa Community Gardens are a beautiful place to explore on a nice day. The City of Costa Mesa has 2 community gardens:
1. Del Mar Community Garden – 170 Del Mar St. has 60 plots.
2. Hamilton Community Garden – 523 Hamilton St. has 42 plots.
The gardens give people a place to plant beautiful flowers, shrubs, vegetables, fruit and more. Since the gardens are in limited supply there is a currently a waiting list for both (12-18 months for Del Mar and 10-12 months for Hamilton). Currently the fees to own a plot are $30 a year for Costa Mesa residents and there is a one-time clearing fee/key fee of $20.
Why else are community gardens so hot? They provide fresh produce, the locally grown produce is eco-friendly, and they instill a sense of neighborhood pride. Community gardens are also a great way to get out and exercise while working on your plot.
Do you have any stories about the Costa Mesa Community Gardens? Make sure to post them or share pictures pictures on the 365 Things To Do In Costa Mesa Facebook page.
