So awhile back I wrote on how we had lost a valued member of my growing pet family. She was a young dog that lost to the battle of parvo. It was a horrible shock to us all but most of all to my brother it was his dog that he had since she was a tiny pup and was with him through college. After returning home a few weeks later she got parvo.
I find it hard to say I feel like this could have been prevented and that I could have saved her. While this was happening we where still new to the whole having a pet and we where learning along the way. I did alot of online research and such and so now my own dog has his shots for parvo.
I'm sure there are things I still don't know that are required for pets but for now I'm gonna have to do my best. well anyways so recently I was in Ontario/ Idaho. while driving to buy some fireworks we came across a van with a cardboard sign and a cage. We drove past just to see what it was they where selling and what not. And to my suprise they had a sign that said Free Puppys! within the cage held about 7 puppies.
I stayed with in the car because I knew if I went out to look at them I would not want to leave without one ^_^ they where so cute i watched as my mother and sister go over to hold the puppies. Then they got back into the car and we left.
While driving my mother spoke of how cute they where and it's a shame we have enough animals as it is. 2 dogs 3 cats. I listened and then thought of my aunt who was looking for a second dog who could play with her newly aquired dog so that she dosen't get lonley. So I made a point in telling my mother that dogs don't eat much to begin with and that they require three servings while a pup and then two as they get older and just about a cup of dog food or else u would be over feeding it and so on. so then we drove back and picked up a brown and black pup that looked like a rottweiler.
The people said that the mother was a border collie and they are unsure of who the dad was. While the pup was being put into our car my mother said that I would be responsible for it and that I better train it right. which got my confused and my mother then said don't u think it's about time your brother open his heart again. So we where taking the dog home for my brother was the plan. we where alittle nervous due to the fact that he might reject it.
But we remained optimistic that he would be happy for another dog. It's been almost a year since she has died but there dosen't go a day that I don't miss her. It makes me sad to think how such a young lovley dog could be struck my such an illness. It is something I never want to experince in a long time....to see my brother that shooken up and broken over her and that there was nothing we could do but get her humainly euthanize because the illness had progressed to far and the medicine wasn't helping.
It's an image i don't want to face again. Well my brother accepted the pup. he seemed alittle unsure but he hugs his new dog close and mentioned that we should get him his parvo shot as soon as possible because he can't relive what happened to his last dog. In hopes that this dog will help my brother move on in life and bring him happness.
