I planned, I researched and I searched the net. Then I went and it was ten times better than I thought it would have. I spent two weeks moving up and down the coastal highway. The sights were to be loved and remembered, the videos to always look at, new details to find with each viewing. I met a man in Jenna who lived in Sacramento who hadn't been to the coast since he was a boy. We were about the same age and I thought of all the places I had been since I began to drive and I thought what could have anchored someone in one spot for so long must have been very absorbing and consuming. The first place on the schedule was St. Helena and that was a hard place to find from Sacramento without any local maps and ended up driving in the wrong direction the first two or three hours and then found the direction and still ended up driving over the mountains on 128 to 29 and that was an experience. The next day I drove over the mountains again, this time to Glen Ellen where Jack London State Park was. That was another headache finding even with detailed driving directions. On the way back I decided to stay on the main highway and found out I should have taken the mountain road back and cut my travel time to a third. After that my next destination was Clearlake. That was the most winding road of the whole trip from Calistoga to Clearlake and probably the biggest elevation change too. I looked at property in Clearlake and all around it. I blew into town late on the first day I was there most of the next and I toured a couple of houses and tracked down several that were in the MLS listings. I was definitely not impressed with the character of the old commence center except for one restaurant that looked like it had something happening.

After doing more reasearch and thanks to responses to my post in the Ca. forum I now know whats going on and its not just the economy. The place has twenty listed hazadous waste sites, one of which lists the neighborhood I was interested in! It is even being connected to the unfortunate tragic death of a young boy that was visiting the area and the famiily wasn't warned of the danger that was lurking in the ground water there. What a shame, it looks so beautiful. It's a documented fact that it was crimminally and intentionally done. It really is just about the money no matter where it is you are. To bad the authorites are more concerd about catching people smoking marjuana than they are about protecting them from powerfull corporations that poison the ground water. The citizens suffering is the corporations profit. The workers that were questioned responded they knew it was wrong but they were just following orders. Where have I heard that before? The war crimes trials after WWII. Previlously I had looked into the town of El Dorado and found that there were high levels of air bourne dolamite which is other wise known as asbestos. In that area it is naturally occurring so nothing can be done about it. I can't win for losing! Maybe someone has some suggestions for a place to look that isn't going to make me sick. I definatly want to be in north end of the state but it doesn't have to be on the coast I've lived close to the ocean here in S. Fla. all my life but I like the mountains here in the S.E. Appalations so I know I would like it there too. This would be a second home until I get to retirement age and then I would make it permanant. The reason I want to locate there is that I've been all over the S.E and I would have someplace new to explore.
