Squirrels wrecking havoc on my Pin Oak Tree

HELP!
We have a 40 foot Pin Oak tree in the back yard. The tree is full of galls (knotty wood balls). The squirrels are chewing on the galls and causing them to crumble all over our patio and yard. This is also causing braches of leaves to fall from the tree. So many branches are falling that we are filling up an 1/4 of an 80 gallon trash can within two days. Does anybody have any suggestions how to remedy this?
p.s...the squirrels are also eating my tomatoes...

We bought a piece of vinyl flooring at Menards about 2 feet wide and the width of the tree and was the same color as the tree. We wrapped it around the tree and secured it about 3-4 feet from the base of the tree. No more squirrels. They can't get past the vinyl. Way too funny watching them try to get past the vinyl!
