The Quest for Soup

Posted 06-21-2010 at 06:38 PM by EmmyNoether

Today I woke up feeling very ill. I ended up pulling the trigger and forcing myself to throw up, so that I could endure going to school and getting work done. There aren't sick days in graduate school. So, I worked through nausea, and actually found myself getting something accomplished. When lunch had rolled around, my stomach still wasn't interested in the turkey-bologna sandwich that I had packed for it. The quest for soup began.

I went to the China Panda (on campus) to learn that they do not have wonton soup... really?! So, I went to the main campus eaterie that usually has several stations of different types of cuisine (pasta, sushi, indian, etc) only to discover that our eaterie had been replaced with a combination middle-high school. I should have noticed the tweens strewn around the outdoor seating - one even cat-called me. The good food was gone and all that remained there was what appeared to be a hybrid between hospital and grade school cuisine. It seemed like everyplace I went only had cream/cheese based soup. What's wrong with tried and true, Chicken Noodle?

I did get to a small campus convenience store to buy some crackers and the only kind of soup they had (microwaveable in the container). This was probably not the best move because I suffered the remaining half of the afternoon curled up in my desk chair trying to push through to finish the document I'd like to send to my adviser. Well, as of now, I am 1 more paragraph and editing away from finishing it completely. Yes, I could work on it from home - I have those capabilities, but I think that I'm going to enjoy my wonton soup (just ordered) and rest up so that tomorrow I can hit my work out of the ballpark.
