Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

A New Tradition On My Weekly Calendar

Posted 06-06-2010 at 05:02 PM by case44

I've done it again, folks. It's amazing the things you stumble upon when you do things on the computer. Things, like, oh, like listening to out-of-town radio stations via the streamline.

Well, you can just blame that particular shenanigan for a new tradition that I have established (as if I didn't need any more of them). It's what I call a 'comfort moment' during the week. I end my weekends with it every week now. Each Sunday night, KFYO in Lubbock (790 AM) airs a nationally syndicated program entitled "Cowboy Corner". The host of the program is a name some of you may be familiar with, particularly if you're a country music fan. It's Red Steagall, who has made a life, literally, out of being a cowboy for about the last thirty years. He's done many things in his career, including releasing some moderately successful country tunes back in the 1970s ("Party Dolls And Wine", "Lone Star Beer And Bob Wills Music", and "Truck-Drivin' Man"). If you've been on our Music forums, you may have seen me post one of his songs from time to time. These days, Steagall is the host of the critically-acclaimed Cowboy Corner, which focuses on the many aspects of the American cowboy. His shows include a little Western music, a guest interview, cowboy poetry, and a gospel segment. I've been listening faithfully every Sunday at 8 pm for about a month now. What a remarkable discovery!

It's just amazing what you can run into when you browse the web. Another tradition suddenly gets added to the mixed bag that we civilians call life.

Everyone has their own little ritual as they go about their daily business. And I didn't even know Red Steagall was still around. Thanks for sharing, case.
