Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

A White February: So Much Snow In North Texas

Flakes of white snow were falling endlessly on Thursday. That might have been the news of the day in other North Texas winters. Not this time. That's because said flakes of white snow were falling endlessly all day at my apartment. Not just a few hours. All day. Non-stop. I mean, from the time I woke up to the time I turned in to bed. That much, that long.

I'll admit, it was quite fun to watch. I had nothing to do but sit at the computer for a big gob of my Thursday, so there's no way I could stop looking out my window and enjoying the nice view of more snow than usual. As if the East Coast getting battered wasn't enough, now we have another low pressure system that just came through North Texas from the west and is headed through the Deep South into the weekend. The normal winter time in my part of the country usually sees about 2 to 3 inches of snow. On February 11, 2010, the Dallas-Fort Worth region had experienced more snow than we knew what to do with. About nine to fourteen inches of snow fell Thursday. That's a record which might not be surpassed for years to come. Two awnings at my apartment complex collapsed under the weight of excessive snow. Thankfully, the one under which I parked my car did not.

I can just hear the collective sigh of relief from all readers out there. (Whhheeeewwww!!)

All of this was fun while it lasted. I was planning to do a road trip early Saturday to Austin. That isn't going to happen. The forecast is now calling for freezing fog overnight, so that scuttles my current plans. As you can see, I'm just danged anxious for spring to arrive in Texas.

    Were any cars damaged?

I saw one in the far distance, so that one, I'm not sure since the area below was obscured from view. But the one a few buildings down from me, I believe did not a single car under it.
