December 2009 Follow-Up

After a relatively mild november, December was not as friendly since many cold days and nights came to the area. I suffered a head-cold from the 1st thorugh 7th of the month and it was brutal having to deal with the coldness and the freezing mist.

Most of the rain fell on the 1st of the month, but other rain events were fairly frequent throughout December 2009. Like the November 2009 weather systems, December's were fast paced causing only moderate rainfall amounts to fall. I gauged 2.12'' over the month which is just over the 1.96'' December average.

Despite this being the 8th coldest December on record for San Antonio, there were still a couple of mild days with highs in the lower to mid 70's which was refreshing I must say. The month ended 4.1 degrees below normal, much of a drop from November.

So far, this El Nino seems to be more noticable for its coldness rather than its wetness, but it has only been one month of winter so we'll see what January and February have in store for us!
