The Spirit of the Trail

Posted 10-05-2008 at 08:39 PM by JoshB

Ah the fragrance of the spruce trees, it’s a clean, distinct smell. The area is abundant of hiking trails. I couldn’t be any more happy, the calling of the loons on the lake at dawn and the site of a bald eagle make getting up early to hit the trails that much more worthwhile… The lake is like a sheet of glass with the fog rolling off… I can hear a few lone wolves in the distance doing there last morning call.. The moon is low in the western sky and the sun is rising quickly. There isn’t much time to watch the sunrise, as the sun comes up quicker than one would like. So far the trails are empty, not a single fellow hiker out, yet.
I’m now ascending a hill that takes me north from the lake into a big loop… I’m leaving the Tamaracks on the lakes edge to be greeted by some lofty Balsam trees that have the most heavenly fragrance. I’m now walking down a worn down trail with ferns on the edge with trees that reach the heavens… It’s perfect, there’s a mist in the air and no wind… Making it a scene that I could never forget.. I travel along an the rays of the sun greet me in spots where foliage isn’t covering the trail… The site of a fawn and a mother come to me as I look off the trail. Everything was so still… This really is a good way to restore the soul is what came to mind… This is truly awesome not a single person on the trail and I’m just out here in the middle of the woods with the loons, wolves, deer and few songbirds that are left in the North Woods… It’s only day three and I’m in heaven…

The North Woods, A good Place to recollect your thoughts and restore your soul.

What a nice recreation of a lovely hike. I wish I could be there! But then that would be one too many hikers. It sounds so peaceful and beautiful. Animals too. Wow, you are lucky to get to enjoy that.
