Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.
Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!
Regards,

Open Up The Store And Let The Shoe Shine In
There's always something to be said about living in an area where there are about 6 million people. You sort of get spoiled by the advantages that it possesses. We get spoiled by having great amenities in nearly relationship of life closeby.
That said, I think I'm on to something brand-new in my life. One of the great things about living in a large metropolitan area is a place called Nordstrom. I'm sure many of you have heard of it. It's a high-end clothing store for the well-to-do man or woman. I decided one day to get my shoes shined at the Dallas Galleria. They used to have a station near the Westin Hotel concourse, but that has long since been removed. So, because the Galleria has a Nordstrom, I checked the directory for shining shoes, and Nordstrom just happened to have a place for it. Euuuuuu-reka! After my first visit to the "shoeshine guy" (is that what I can call him? ), I was immediately impressed. So much so that this is what I've decided to do from now on. It takes ten minutes and costs about the same as a two-cheeseburger order at McDonald's. Guess what this writer plans to do about once a week now? Absolutely shiny shoes once out of there.
As of right now, I'm not planning on doing it myself ever again. Not with shining shoes, anyway, because I cannot do that particular practice nearly as good or do my shoes enough justice like our "shoeshine guy" has recently demonstrated. It's either mess it up yourself or have someone else do it right. Besides, it's also an opportunity to make another person's day.
It's well worth it.
