Into the Woods
It’s now my second year coming up to Minocqua and I feel even more at home this year than last year… The first night was spent laying in my temporary bedroom contemplating how I was going to spend my nine days up here… The first few minutes were thinking about whether I was going to see a bear this year… I took a few breaths and thought about dad and how much he would love to do something like this… I then heard some of the century old pines outside my window swaying to the cool Fall breeze… The leaves gently met the window and did a soft landing at the base… I was so happy to be sleeping this close to nature.
I fell asleep thinking about something I can’t even recall… I woke up the next morning to the joyful sound of my five year old sister awaking me… She was excited as it was her first morning here in the north woods. She said softly that mom made breakfast and that I was to eat now… I can’t remember the last time I had someone make me breakfast, but I was one happy guy. I eventually made it upstairs after a nice hot shower.. I was ascending the basement stairs when I caught the first waft of maple syrup and sausage links… There is nothing better than waking up to a nice warm breakfast on a cool September morning than sausage and pancakes. I was finally having my first glimpse of how the next few days would be.. Nice warm breakfast, the laughter and joy of a young sibling who I seldom see. All this and it’s only been twelve hours since we got here..
