The first official train robbery in the U.S. occurred May 5, 1865, when a passenger train left Cincinnati bound for St. Louis and was robbed near North Bend, Ohio by men with revolvers.
They took cash and jewelry from 100 passengers and $30,000 in bonds from the Adams Express car. They were never caught.
