Memories

Ive always wondered why some people say that in their memories everything is black and white. I remember things very vividly and in color. Like how green the water hose was that ran in my grandads garden that grew between our houses. The colors of the honeysuckles that grew in the fence behind the house, and especially the smells. Like rain on a dirt road after a long hot spell, freshcut grass. I realized the other day that somewhere along the way I had gotten too busy, looking months into the future,...

One Christmas season my dear mother decided that she wanted a real Christmas tree.
Great I thought, I had visions of driving into town, like in the movies and picking out the tree where the lights shown above it and everyone gets all misty eyed, but that thought lasted about 10 seconds when my dad said, "sure no problem, we will just go find you one in the woods and cut it ourselves".
Of course the "we" part meant I would have to be involved somehow, either...

One cold night in Arkansas, when the moon was just making shadows across the yard and you could see your breath if you went outside, I heard the spit and sputter of our neighbors old Datsun B210 that also served as our stockcar when no adults were around. Feels funny for me to say along time ago to my kids. We live in such a different world now than we did when I was a kid back in the 70s. I stayed with my grandparents during the day while my parents worked. We only had three stations on the tv, one from Arkansas and the other two were from Memphis. One of us would go outside with a pipe wrench and turn the antenna while the other one would watch the screen and yell out the window that the picture was either good or bad. We didnt stay in the house...

Kinda cool to be able to blog on here. I really dont have anything to blog about I guess. Fathers Day was very Nice, its the first day Ive had completly off since..hmm April I think, so it was nice to get to be lazy and spend the day with the family.
