RE K-8 It's not good news folks;

St. John's is likely the best on island but they have their issues too.
1. 11K per kid per year
2. bullying
3. run down facilities
4. Stateside average certified teachers
5. 1:15 class size
6. 85% Korean
7. Strong academics - lots of homework even in Kindergarten.
8. No cafeteria
9. Most like stateside schools

We have been in Guam 18 months now. Pro's and con's to note:
Pros:
  • The ocean
  • warm weather (shorts and flip flops 24-7)
  • some nice beaches
  • everything is close
  • most people friendly
  • good place to base travel from
  • everyone knows everyone

  • Great outdoor activities especially if you like hiking, biking, running.

We are here. It has been about 2 and a half weeks since we arrived and we are fairly settled in. It has been nonstop moving in and getting stuff to make it a home. So here is what I have learned about Guam:
Everyone is very friendly.
It does not seem as small as it is (yet)
People love it (I like it)
The humidity is not bad
Harper Valley kennel sucks - more later
Nice beaches and warm water
Crazy exspensive groceries
We are, many times, the only blondies...

Rock on

Posted 01-23-2011 at 10:39 PM by sailboat26

We had our Going Going Guam Good Bye party last night at Rock Bottom Brewery. Besides being very hungover today it was a blast. Bittersweet seeing friends that go back almost 20 years knowing I will not see them for at least 2-3 years. However, I am looking forward to the move and making new friends. For now, no more beer!

Bye bye

SO it is official and we are going at the end of January. Crazy! Selling off contents, arranging transport of the dogs and trying not to freak out too much. Since it is 40 degrees here today Guam sounds really nice.

So now have to find a place to live, schools, and new people to hang out with.
