gay politics

Why do poloticians care if gay men and women get married or have a "commitment" ceremony. Why does it matter? Do we has homosexuals not have the same rights as heterosexuals? It just bothers me that if I'm with a man for 20 or so years and something happens to one of us who ever is left doesn't have a leagal right to anything we have built together. Isn't America the land of the free? Compaired to other countries yes but when you get right down to it its not

Why is it so hard to find a lasting relationship when your gay? Are we to picky? Is it beacause we are two men? Or is it simply the fact that there are no good examples of a good gay relationship?all we have to compare relatioships to are our parents siblings and any other straight influences in our lives? Just a thought
