Special Climate Update: Searing Summer 2009!

Posted 08-12-2009 at 02:53 PM by Adam DeSilvester

So far, to this date, we have seen 47 100 plus degree days here in San Antonio, Texas and we are likely to see atleast a few more before conditions start to finally ease up. Just to let you all know, the record for triple digit degree days in San Antonio was 36 set back in 1998! We blew that one away already.

Also, remember that little weather prediction I made this past fall about this summer being dry and warm? Well, turns out I was exactly correct. However, I will admit that I did...

July 2009 Follow Up

Posted 08-01-2009 at 08:30 AM by Adam DeSilvester

After the third warmest June on record, July 2009 proved itself to be one for us to remember. Not only was it the warmest July ever, but also the warmest month at 88.7 degrees F. This breaks the old hottest month on record which was August 2006 at 88.3 degrees F. There is no doubt that the summer of 2009 is the hottest one on record so far.

Rainfall continued to be calm in July 2009. Only .48 inches fell the entire month. A stark contrast to the past two Julys of 07 and 08. We are...

June 2009 Follow Up

Posted 07-01-2009 at 11:46 AM by Adam DeSilvester

Woah! What did we do to deserve a month from hell like this?!

Although the average monthly temperature was .3 degrees F below June 2008, the average high temperature was .1 degrees F higher than last year's June. 12 triple digit degree days occured this June vs. last year's 5! So it did feel hotter to me than the previous one and June 2009 could have been even warmer if it had not been for the first week of the month which had brought more moderated temperatures carrying over from...

May 2009 Follow Up

Posted 06-01-2009 at 07:34 AM by Adam DeSilvester

We were blasted with our first heat wave in the first half of May 2009. Within the first 15 days, only a trace of rain had fallen. Luckily, conditions changed by the 16th as more rain came along with cooler temperatures. We have had quite a few days with heavy rain and severe thunderstorms. According to NOAA’s monthly May 2009 chart, there were technically only four days this month with heavy rain. We ended the month at 3.7 degrees F above the normal monthly May temperature (.6 degrees F cooler...

April 2009 Follow Up

Posted 05-05-2009 at 02:46 PM by Adam DeSilvester

Wow, I get a review before NOAA releases theres!

The wetter and warmer weather pattern that began in March 2009 continued thorughout April. The first 11 days of the month were cooler than normal which I could not believe after having a warm March. We had some pretty nice downpoors on the morning of the 12th, with the storm event on the 16th, 17th, and 18th (the greatest one of the month), and one final storm system ten days later on the 26th, 27th, and 28th. These strom events were...
