If only your writer had a hold of an article giving plenty of notice. Instead, I find out after the event had already begun.

Realistically, it wouldn't have worked, anyway, as I had to go to work here in suburban Dallas, having been back from vacation for five days. Now, if the following event had happened last Saturday....

I had it and it was mild but that doesn't suggest everyone's experience is the same. Cancer can kill and sometimes it doesn't. You aren't moron for not getting sicker in much the same way some cancer patients don't die.
