Genuine, respectful discussion

What would a genuine, respectful discussion look like? What could we accomplish by setting aside combativeness and insults? Not only would it be more intellectually gratifying, but it might even influence a person's mood in a positive direction.

I don't feel compelled to change your mind about anything. In fact, I'm willing to just ask questions and comment only on what I'm specifically asked to. I'll do what I can to make this enjoyable for both of us.
