Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Thunderstorm Forecasts Have Been Largely Overhyped

Posted 05-19-2021 at 05:15 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I'll never say for us not to let our guards down. Oh, no. But you have to wonder just how much hype the people at the National Weather Service have given recent rain and storm forecasts, at least where some parts of Dallas are concerned.

Now, I don't wish to downplay the isolated incidents which have occurred, like a recent tornado ripping apart a roof in North Dallas. The flood warnings, however, are very real and must be taken seriously. And there has been more...

Weather Will Be A Key Factor In This Writer's Next Road Trip

Posted 05-17-2021 at 07:40 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Yeah, but isn't it always?

Actually, what I plan to do this weekend happens on my days off from work, even though a real vacation is forthcoming in a few weeks (pending my boss', ..... um, approval ). Just needing to take another trip this Sunday back into Oklahoma for some R&R. This time, however, not quite all the way into Oklahoma City. I'll be exploring Norman and Moore, Oklahoma, as I haven't spent a lot of time in these dynamic OKC suburbs....

"I'll Fly Away" Has To Always Be Upbeat

Posted 05-16-2021 at 08:15 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I'm sure some of you out there have taken the time to listen to some Gospel music. Sometimes, the choices range from Southern gospel to contemporary Christian.

Well, my thought for this post centers around a song that has long been a favorite of Southern gospel aficionados and, also, gatherings at area churches. That piece of music is "I'll Fly Away". It's long been one of my faves, and through the years, I've heard many versions of this song. Many different...

Oklahoma's Fried Onion Burger Day Must Not Be Forgotten

Posted 05-11-2021 at 06:42 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

It happens every year right around this time. Oklahoma's burger faithful gather in El Reno each May for their annual Burger Day. The tradition was spurred by the likes of Sid's and Robert's, both fixtures of the combo of shallot and ground round.

Every year, sure. But not this year. Why? Because of COVID.

Stupid Chinese communists robbing us of our joy again, but I digress. Okies and anyone else just love a good fried onion burger,...

Posted 05-10-2021 at 07:58 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Warm greetings once again, my fair readers. Time to do some Scattershooting, right here on City-Data for your reading and absorbing pleasure. Besides, I could just write fifteen different blog posts on the things about to get covered here, but then, why wait until July for the fifteenth post?

********

Baseball has been back, but, boy, we've had some mighty fine pitching in the early months. In fact, four no-hitters have already been...
